The Cream Will Rise to the Top

The AT&T National held at Congressional Country Club in Maryland is a traditional style golf course, where shot shape and shot making is very important.  The tournament itself is a relatively new event.  This is the 3rd running of the tournament, but Congressional also held the Booz Allen (only in the USA) Classic in 2005. 

Vijay:  No win in 2009, but returning to form. 

It's fact that the Congressional 'set-up' favours the top players.  Indeed 14 of 15 players who have placed in the Top 3 over the past three PGA Tour events held there have all been PGA Tour winners.  Tour rookies and players who haven't crossed the finishing line won't win here. 

The winners list at Congressional continues this theme.  Sergio Garcia in 2005, K.J. Choi in 2007 and Anthony Kim in 2008. A small but perfectly formed champions list!

The key trend that links them is the fact that when they won the tournament they were all ranked within the Top 20 of the World Golf Ranking. 

We don't like to be the bearers of bad tidings but this week Marking Your Card simply can't avoid it.
