Based upon these 3 facts here is a short list of key players who could well be lifting the claret jug come Sunday 18th July. A few names won’t shock you, but others might!
Paddy Power are already running an Open Championship 7 place special. For those of you new to golf betting that effectively means that Each Way bets are settled at 1/4 odds on all players finishing in the Top
7 at St Andrews. Allied to this Paddy Power are also offering a FREE £20 bet when you open an account
and bet just £10. It's a 'no brainer' so

Tiger Woods 13/2. Get 5 places each way plus a free £25 bet offer
here:
The great man hasn’t got a great game right now and looks particularly vulnerable around the greens. However it takes a brave man to back against the World Number 1,
a 14 times major winner who has won the last 2 Open Championships held at St Andrews. This course was made for him and there hasn’t been a bigger price on Tiger for an Open in the past 10 years.
Phil Mickelson 18/1. Get 7 places each way plus the bet £10 get £20 offer
here:
Mickelson’s least favourite Major championship by a country mile, but his recent challenge at Pebble Beach shows that Lefty can play tough ‘links’ seaside style courses. Finished 3rd at Royal Troon
in 2004 and knows that victory at St Andrews will take the World No1 spot away
from Mr Woods for the first time in living memory……
Lee Westwood 22/1. Get 6 places each way plus a free £25 bet offer here:
Worksop’s finest has 4 Open Top 20 finishes to his
name and could well have triumphed in 2009 although Watson & Cink would argue with that statement! The last 9 major championships have yielded: 3 x 3rd (US Open 08, The Open and PGA 09) + 1 x 2nd (The Masters 10). Truly amazing numbers and this writer thinks
22/1 right now looks a little generous for at least a Stan James Each Way Top
6 finish plunge.
Ian Poulter 33/1. Get 6 places each way plus a free £25 bet offer here:
There is no doubt that 33/1 on Poulter right now offers
good value. Ian impressed at Augusta when finishing 10th in April and finished 2nd to Paddy Harrington in 2008 plus has another Top 20 (11th in 2005) on his Open CV. Buoyed by his World Match
Play triumph in the US earlier in the season and starting to show glimpses of form again, could this be another year of contention for Poulter?
K.J. Choi 100/1. Get 5 places each way plus a £10 free bet offer:
Looking for each way value? Well Choi in 2010 is back somewhere close to his best. The 7 time PGA Tour winning Korean was right in the mix with Westwood and Mickelson to win The Masters. He has the game, the
Major experience (5 Top 10 finishes) and more importantly the temperament to contend at St Andrews this year and finishes of 8th and 16th in 07 and 08 showed that he was getting his head around links golf before his game fell away in 2009.
Hunter Mahan 125/1. Get 7 places each way plus the bet £10 get £20 offer
here:
Yes Hunter makes our key player shortlist and for good reason. The Texan finished 8th at Augusta in 2008 also finished 6th at Carnoustie in 2007 so has experience of being at the sharp end on an Open Sunday. That was the first of 4 major Top 10 finishes and it’s true that Mahan saves his best for tough US Open style courses. If we are blessed with good weather, St Andrews may well suit the fast talking Texan in 2010.

The Open Championship 2010 from the home of golf, St Andrews, is almost upon us. So if you are looking for golf betting tips for The Open
then read on...and don’t forget to give our profitable predictor model a view pre-tournament as well,
the model will ready from Monday 12th July via this link:
Golf Predictor. When you build a shortlist of likely winners it becomes clear that the Open Championship due to its 'links' course nature is a unique challenge but we have uncovered a pattern that highlights those most likely to contend and ultimately triumph.
Take the Open Championship winners from 2000 through 2009:
Fact 1 - 7 of the 10 champions (70%) finished in the Top 10 of the preceeding Masters at Augusta.
Fact 2 - These 7 champions ALL had experience of previously finishing in the Top 20 at the Open Championship. Even Stewart Cink who won the Claret Jug at Turnberry in 09 had 2 Top 20 finishes to his name prior to his triumph.
Fact 3 - On top of these statistics, don’t be fooled around the hype about The Scottish Masters being the ‘perfect warm-up’ tournament for the Open. No player this decade has won the Scottish Masters at Loch Lomond and then moved forward to win the Open Championship. In fact ONLY Ernie Els has won the Open Championship after playing at Loch Lomond in the week prior to triumphing.
