Our longshots column is back by popular demand this week mainly on the basis that it’s been so successful! We’ll cover off some great value Each Way bets where appropriate across the rest of the 2011 season.
At the Open Championship in July, we highlighted Darren Clarke at 200/1 (Totesport) in Steve Bamford's Open longshots article, plus Paul Williams grabbed a 200/1 EW return on Thomas Bjorn as part of his main tips. Then we moved onto Atlanta Athletic Club for the PGA Championship and what do you know…… our PGA Championship longshots delivered Robert Karlsson at 100/1.
The key to long shot bargain hunting is naturally picking the right players, but just as key is selecting the right BOOKMAKER. This week Bet 365 win hands-down as they are still running their incredible £200 of free bets account opening proposition in combination with market leading prices on some of our value longshots. You might also want to get involved in-some golf trading where you can make profit in-play and it makes perfect sense with both Betfair and Betdaq offering no lose /no risk bet account opening propositions. So, fellow bargain hunters, here are 3 outsiders that I think can be at the higher end of the leaderboard come Sunday evening at the BMW Championship:
Blake Adams 200/1

Georgia resident Blake Adams came onto my radar when he finished 2nd to Jason Day at TPC Four Seasons halfway through last season. Fact is that Adams thrives on Par 70 / Par 71 Bent golf courses and has already amassed over $1,000,000 and guaranteed full playing privileges for the 2012 PGA Tour. Adams has suffered with serious back problems throughout his career but has been pain free since mid-season. Indeed since June Adams has delivered 6 Top 20 finishes including Top 10s at River Highlands (Connecticut), Annandale, Montreaux and TPC Boston (Massachusetts). His key game stats of 14th on Tour for Shots Gained Putting, 34th for Birdie Average and 23rd for Total Driving is a perfect mix on a course where keeping the ball in-play is key and will enable scoring. Tie that in with a progressive recent form line 10-MC-30-3-32 and Adams could be a shock contender this week and offers excellent trading appeal.
At the time of writing, Adams was trading at 330 with Betfair. Get a £25 No lose bet with Betfair to start you off here: Betfair No Lose Bet
Jonathan Byrd 125/1

I’m truly dumbfounded that a player of Byrd’s undoubted quality sits at 125/1 this week, but I’m more than happy to fill my boots and here’s why: Byrd, who is a lock in for the Tour Championship next week, finished 5th at The Barclays in New Jersey a fortnight back, so is obviously in decent nick. On top of that he has a real habit of thriving on classical set-ups. Indeed he finished 2nd in a playoff to Lucas Glover at Quail Hollow in May and 7th at Muirfield in June. 3rd at Muirfield and 5th at Quail Hollow both in 2009, 3rd at Pebble Beach in 2006 and 8th on debut at Augusta in 2003 highlight a player that’s comfortable with the challenges of a classical golf course. 10th here at Cog Hill in 2007 and 3 of his 5 wins have been on bent greens “up—state” in New York and Illinois respectively.
At the time of writing, Byrd was trading at 170 with Betfair. Get a £25 No lose bet with Betfair to start you off here: Betfair No Lose Bet
Sean O’Hair 150/1

Sean O’Hair has always been a player I’ve kept my eye on. 2011 had been an unmitigated disaster, but it shows the quality of the Pennsylvanian native, whose golfing education was very much in Florida, that he still won the Canadian Open in July at the classical Shaughnessy set-up near Vancouver. Indeed looking at the results of all PGA Tour tournaments played on classical courses since and including 2008, O’Hair sits in 4th spot behind only Lefty, Stricker and Furyk. Not too shabby for a 150/1 shot who is more than tradeable on Betfair. Tie a 25th finish last time out at TPC Boston in with a 4th place finish here post Rees-Jones redesign in 2009 and I’m interested. A glance at the recent CV highlights 5th at Firestone in 2010; 1st at Quail Hollow, 2nd at Bay Hill and 4th at East Lake in 2009 plus 3rd at Bay Hill and 3rd at Glen Abbey in 2008. Oh yeah and he won his first PGA Tour tournament in Illinois at Deere Run in 2005. I’d jump on as a little precaution wager if I were you!
