The PGA Tour Fall Series is now in full swing and the scramble for a victory to close 2010 in style continues. The “Bermuda Positive” Bill Haas triumphed last week in Mississippi and that was yet another triumph for our PGA Tour Predictor Model which is now a £1,200 up for the season. Don’t believe me…click here, now fact is that is top PGA Tour tipping you won’t get anywhere else for FREE.
The scramble for the Top 125 continues this week with a total change in schedule for the Fall Series. The McGladrey marks a departure to the Eastern seaboard and offers a nice symmetry with the European Tour. Whilst a superb depth of field congregate at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kings Barns for the Dunhill Links Championship, the PGA Tour will be in on the crazily rich Sea Island commune in Georgia playing the beautifully aptly titled Seaside Course.
Course info is scratchy at best but the key constituents are Bermuda Greens, 7,000 yards, Par 70 and Fazio Re-Design. Weather is due to beautifully autumnal with little wind and no precipitation.
I’m expecting a fair test of golf so I’m pulling together a team of well priced players who are Bermuda, Seaside and Par 70 positive. Expect players like Wetterich, Immelman, Mayfair, Merrick and Mallinger so “show up” as they fight to gain a place in the Top 125 Money Earners.
Amidst the betting chaos of the Fall Series a number of tournaments happen to fall to players who have had a superb season in terms of results and World Golf Ranking. From 2009 take Matt Kuchar and Davis Love III. From last week take Bill Haas. Well I’m taking this pattern forward with Bo Van Pelt. Oklahoma’s number 1 export has his best ever season grossing $2.8 million and rising over 110 places on the WGR to sit comfortably in the Top 50 in the World.
6 Top 10 finishes including Top 5s at both The Players and Bridgestone Invitational have placed VP on the world map. All he needs is a 2nd PGA Tour win of his career to top off a stellar 2010. Results like 3rd at Harbour Links this season and 2nd in Puerto Rico in 09 highlight that Van Pelt can play sea-side golf. The Oklahoma State grad has another advantage over many in the field as he played his college golf on a Fazio design so the Seaside Course should suit. RESULT: T6
Whisper it to your mates quietly but Justin Leonard is finding some form! A form line of 30-30-36-3-39 certainly appeals. The 3rd was in Toronto where Leonard had a real shot on the 18th of ending his win drought that stretches back to St Jude in 2008, which by the way is a Bermuda track. He shot bogey on 18 and slipped out of a potential play-off with Atwal. However the 2nd Fall Series event has a habit of throwing up a winner who finished in the Top 10 in August so Leonard fits perfectly.
Anybody that has the remotest interest in golf knows that Leonard has a superb seaside temperament and won the 97 Open. Add to that his love of both Par 70 golf and Bermuda greens and we have a recipe I can’t ignore this week. RESULT: T45
I love the look of our Predictor Model No 10 this week. The Georgia based Slocum is perfect for coastal golf as he is as straight as a dye and avoids trouble. He loves Par 70 Bermuda tracks and 2 of his PGA Tour victories were on Bermuda greens.
9th in a stellar field in The Barclays in August show’s he is decent enough nick and his love for coastal golf is obvious. His victory at The Barclays in New Jersey last year was one of the best performances of the season and that was no fluke has he had previously finished 3rd in Mexico and 9th at the 08 US Open at Torrey Pines. RESULT: Winner
888 Sports £20 no lose bet is absolutely perfect for value long shots and Mallinger fits the bill perfectly. If he wins the tournament you grab £700 from a £10 EW stake, if he Top 5s you profit £180. If he loses you get your £20 back. The crazy thing is I think Mallinger has a great shot at winning this week for a number of reasons. The Californian was as short as 28/1 for last week’s Viking Classic so 70/1 offers amazing value on a Par 70 specialist who loves Tom Fazio designs.
The 2nd Fall Series event has a habit of throwing up a winner who sits outside that Top 125 money earners and who desperately needs to play well to save his playing privileges and Mallinger who finished 3rd in North Carolina last month fits the bill perfectly. His Pebble Beach record (including 3rd in 2008) shows that coastal golf holds no fears. RESULT: M/C
“Choker” Cejka is the perennial bridesmaid and I’m not going to persuade you that this week will be any different however where Ladbrokes are as short as 80/1 Paddy Power are offering a market leading price that is extremely generous value as an Each Way punt. After all the jovial German finished 8th at the US Open in June on the Par 70 Pebble Beach Golf Links. Okay you want some more evidence! Well his 3rd place finish in August at Turning Stone jumps off the page for me. After all it is a Tom Fazio design. Finishes of 3rd (Munich) & 8th in June, 5th in July (Reno-Tahoe) and 3rd in August stack up to make Cejka a superb each way punt this week. RESULT: M/C
