Augusta Calling

The HP Byron Nelson Championship has a rich history.  Part two of May's 'Texas Swing,' the event is played at TPC Four Seasons in Forth Worth, Texas.  The winners list is littered with great ball strikers who can handle the demands of the 2008 refurbished Las Colinas course.  This course is not long with only two Par 5s and rewards accuracy and great iron shot making.  On top of that players have to contend with that Texas wind all over again.

Anthony Kim: In the Top 30 at Augusta. Champion at the Byron Nelson?

Anthony Kim can contend at home in Fort Worth, Texas this week.

Our list of players to watch this week is consise and extremely precise.  The link?  Well 86% or 6 of the last 7 Byron Nelson champions have played The Masters at Augusta in the previous April.  So?

Well even more amazing is that 5 of the past 7 champions all finished in the Top 30 at the proceeding Masters.  That includes Adam Scott (2008), Scott Verplank (2007), Sergio Garcia (2004), Vijay Singh (2003) and Shigeki Maruyama (2002).  Augusta National and TPC Four Seasons with it's contours and elevation changes, reward the same player attributes, where long accurate iron play into fast contoured greens is the key.

Marking Your Card players to watch for at this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship in alphabetical order:

Stuart Appleby, Chad Campbell, Steve Flesch, Todd Hamilton, Ryuji Imada, Dustin Johnson, Anthony Kim, Hunter Mahan, Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter, Rory Sabbatini and Vijay Singh.
