Off to Malaysia this week - just a few days after the shenanigans in Augusta it's a surprise to me to find the new Masters champion, World number 1 plus a disappointed Rory McIlroy in attendance, however that just shows how much the European continues to progress in the world of golf!
This tournament tends to hop around a bit in terms of venue, however this year we're at the Kuala Lumpur G&CC for the second consecutive year, plus it's worth noting that this this venue was also used for the rain-reduced 2006 tournament won by Charlie Wi at 19 under par.
Water is the main hazard here with 13 holes carrying a threat; the course isn't long at exactly 7,000 yards par 72, featuring 2 eminently reachable par 5s plus another 4 par 4s under 400 yards. I've up-weighted history in this tournament, putting and a bit of form to get to my final predictor output.
Here's my tips (apologies for the brevity this week!):
The Welsh putting sensation exploded back into contention in Morocco and I'm expecting Davies to follow that performance up with a win in some lofty company this week. His 3rd place finish here last season preceded his first win the following week - when he's hot you must get on him, and this is the week in my opinion...the predictor agrees also which is good enough for me! RESULT: T52
Another player who finished runner-up on his last start is the Swede, albeit this time in Andalucia. 7th here last year, plus with an average of 69.5 over his last 5 attempts in this tournament I'm also backing the predictor number 2 selection. RESULT: M/C
You can't ignore a 2-time winner here, despite some indifferent form. 4 top 10s from 9 attempts in the last decade, an average of 69.4 over all those rounds don't lie and I'm expecting a big performance here this week following a promising start in India on his last start on the European Tour. RESULT: T17
Odds and bookmaker offers correct at 21:45BST 12.4.11 but naturally subject to fluctuation.
