Steve Bamford's Memorial Double Your Money Special
Fresh from the result on Corey Pavin last week, let's take some of those positive vibes into the Memorial.
Here's the drill:
Step 1, have an Extrabet account ready to use - this is important for these bets. If you haven't got an Extrabet account then you can open a new one here: going via this link will qualify you for a £100 basket of free fixed-odds bets and £100 casino bonus.
Step 2, pick 3 players in the Extrabet top-20 market with odds of 5/1 or longer. The reason that you place these with Extrabet is that there's no reduction for ties in their rules - so if your player ties with any other players for 20th spot then you still get full returns at the quoted price. This happens more regularly than you might expect! Place a level stake on each, ie £10, or whatever suits you.
Step 3, use the predictor to work out those players who are most likely to finish well at a long price. Typically you need to be looking at outright odds of 150/1 or longer to get a 5/1 top-20 price although there's no hard and fast rule here, you'll need to check the price with Extrabet via this link.
Step 4, if any one of your 3 players finishes in the top 20 or a tie for 20th then you'll at least double your money!
On that basis, here's my 3 picks. If you have a different 3 why not share them with us on Twitter or Facebook via the links at the top of this page?
Brendon de Jonge 7/1. First timer at Muirfield, but that’s why he’s at 7/1. Loves fast bent grass tracks and classical Carolina style courses on the basis he lives and was educated in North Carolina. 4th at Quail Hollow in April fits nicely. Brendon has also scored notable results at Canadian Open (09) Renoe Tahoe Open and Turning Stone (both 07) on fast bent grass set-ups. A Top 10 last season at the Nicklaus designed PGA National also grabs attention. Well on target to keep his Tour card in 2010. RESULT: T12
John Mallinger 7/1. Mallinger is an exceptional ball striker who has started this season disastrously. Was a 14/1 last week to finish Top 20 and duly delivered. So what happened? Well he found something with his putter and 1.692 putts per GIR number for the first time since mid 2009 was the result. 10th at Muirfield in 2008 and I’m expecting to see continued momentum this week. RESULT: Missed Cut
John Merrick 6/1 Like his close friend John Mallinger, the Long Beach native found something in his game at Colonial last week finished 22nd. Merrick selects himself this week with just on look at his resume. Effectively this guy loves tough golf courses and performs best on tough tests. 6th at the US Open in 2008 was proven to be no fluke when finishing 6th on the fast bent greens of Augusta and 10th at the PGA Championship. His liking of fast bent greens can also be seen with 2 consecutive T10s at Renoe-Tahoe which just happens to be a Nicklaus design. RESULT: T64
Odds and offers correct 22:30BST 1.6.10 but naturally subject to fluctuation.
Good Luck!!
