UK TV Coverage
Whilst going widely unnoticed SKY signed the UK TV rights for the PGA Tour for 2010 so expect excellent coverage of the whole tournament. However the time difference means if you want to watch the action live you’ll need to stay up all night.
The SBS Championship traditionally marks the start of the 2010 PGA Tour season and 2010 Fed Ex Cup chase. It’s played on the lush fairways of The Plantation Course in Hawaii. But don’t worry if you are struggling to recognise the tournament as the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) are new South Korean sponsors. The season opening event was previously sponsored by Mercedes since 1994 and was known as the Mercedes Benz Championship from 2007 onwards.

Previous Winners
World players dominate the season open with Jim Furyk being the last US winner in 2001. Expect those that have seen December action in Australia and South Africa to hit the ground running in Hawaii.
2009 Geoff Ogilvy 2008 Daniel Chopra 2007 Vijay Singh
2006 Stuart Appleby 2005 Stuart Appleby 2004 Stuart Appleby
2003 Ernie Els 2002 Sergio Garcia 2001 Jim Furyk 2000 Tiger Woods
The Plantation Course
It’s a very rare but non taxing Par 73. Fairways are wide with little rough so attacking golf is the order of the day. Plantation though has two main features. It’s the most undulating course on the PGA Tour with serious changes of aspect. Secondly the course is always affected by what can be severe Westerly Kona winds. Plantation is a course that has subtle nuances that take time to master so rookies often struggle on their first visit.
Eligible Players
Although eligible don’t expect Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson to play at the SBS. Lefty traditionally starts his season in Scottsdale at the FBR whereas Woods usually starts his campaign at Torrey Pines. But with the current Tiger ‘saga’ who knows where he will start! Paul Casey and Martin Laird will be the only GB representatives with further European flavour provided by Henrik Stenson.
