Steve Bamford's The Barclays Double Your Money Special
This format returns after a week off - great news as this it's always fun picking a few outsiders and seeing how they fare! Overall we're in good profit on both Tours from this for the season - click here to take a look at all the results for this season to date.
If you're new to the game, here's the drill:
Step 1, have an Extrabet account ready to use - this is important for these bets. If you haven't got an Extrabet account then you can open a new one here: going via this link will qualify you for a £100 basket of free fixed-odds bets and £100 casino bonus. Your first bet is matched by Extrabet (they place the same bet for you at the same price up to £25) so you can get even better returns on your first bet if you can pick a winner!
Step 2, pick 3 players in the Extrabet top-20 market with odds of 5/1 or longer. The reason that you place these with Extrabet is that there's no reduction for ties in their rules - so if your player ties with any other players for 20th spot then you still get full returns at the quoted price. This happens more regularly than you might expect! Place a level stake on each, ie £10, or whatever suits you.
Step 3, use the predictor or knowledge (or follow our tips!) to work out those players who are most likely to finish well at a long price. Typically you need to be looking at outright odds of 150/1 or longer to get a 5/1 top-20 price although there's no hard and fast rule here, you'll need to check the price with Extrabet via this link.
Step 4, if any one of your 3 players finishes in the top 20 or a tie for 20th then you'll at least double your money!
On that basis, here's my 3 picks. If you have a different 3 why not share them with us on Twitter or Facebook via the links at the top of this page?
Marc Leishman 5/1
Not the first time I’ve tipped Leishman as both a main tip or within Double Your Money this season, but in time I’m certain that he won’t be available at these prices on the basis that this guy is a class act. He has already accumulated 8 Top 20 finishes on Tour this season and over $1.2 million and has played in all 4 majors + WGC @ Doral. No stranger to the FedEx Cup series either after finishing 15th at Boston (Duetsche) and an amazing 2nd at Cog Hill (BMW) on his way to 20th overall in the series. Not too shabby as a rookie eh?! Has a liking for fast bent greens so expect a decent run for your money this week after finishing like a train at the Wyndham last week. RESULT: T36
Kevin Streelman 6/1
Duke educated Streelman is another that has a real taste for North Eastern US golf. Started 2010 like a train, finishing 10th at the Bob Hope, 2nd in Puerto Rico and 7th at Bay Hill; a result that really jumps off the page on the basis that 2008 winner and runner up Singh and Garcia both love Arnold Palmer’s Orlando course. April through August has seen a slump, but the inevitable return to form happened at Sedgefield last week where his North Carolina supporters cheered him to a Top 20 finish. With this positive momentum and a return to Ridgewood where he led after 54 holes and finished 4th in 2008, I’m expecting another decent outing. RESULT: T3
Jerry Kelly 6/1
Steve Stricker’s Barclays record is second to none, 2nd 09 - 19th 08 - 1st 07, reads quite well! So I wasn’t overly surprised when my research uncovered that his best mate and virtually Wisconsin neighbour Jerry Kelly also has a half decent record at the Barclays, after all they have had virtually the same golfing education. Sure enough 19th at Ridgewood in 08 + 9th in 07 and 7th in 02 at Westchester show that Kelly has a liking for New Jersey golf. Kelly, who made the Tour Championship in 2010 and the BMW Championship in 08/09 ,is no stranger to the Playoffs, so his current lowly 90th in the FedEx series should provoke a decent outing to qualify for next week’s Deutsche and beyond. RESULT: M/C
Best of luck this week!
