The Masters is here and there are over 40 different markets to tempt. PGA Tour Profit pundit Steve Bamford guides you through the highly profitable Masters Top Debutant market.
What do all these players have in common? Allenby, Cabrera, Cink, Goosen, Jiminez, Johnson (Zach variety), Leonard, Lyle, Perry, Stenson, Stricker and Villegas. A pretty illustrious group of players I’ll think you’ll agree. Well.... they all Missed the Cut on Debut at Augusta!
Picking the Top Debutant can prove to be tricky and certainly isn't straightforward. Rewind 12 months to 2009. Rory McIlroy and Anthony Kim were 3-1 and 4-1 ‘certs’ to fight out Top Augusta Rookie. I tipped little known American John Merrick at 28-1 and what do you know he finished 6th and brought home the bacon.
I think you can see where this leading in terms of 2010. Charl Schwartzel is the obvious favourite for Top Deb at best price 7-2 with Stan James; Francesco Molinari is 7/1 second favourite. Both are in superb form with Schwartzel winning in South Africa, contending at the WGC CA at Doral and finishing 3rd last week in Houston. Molinari is ranked 5th on the European Tour and finished 4th last time out at the Andalucia Open. Those who are regulars to Golf Betting System realise though that we often ignore the OBVIOUS.
You can’t argue about their favouritism; however I believe they have weaknesses that will be exposed by better suited debutants. American’s have a record of debuting well at Augusta as do PGA Tour regulars, hence my alternative view below:

Na is one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour right now.
3 T10s in 2010 followed an amazing 12 in 2009. Nevada based
Californian Na feels at home on desert courses, but is now
developing across all types of American course. Indeed a superb 2nd
behind Els last time out at Bay Hill will instil confidence for his
rookie appearance at Augusta. His accuracy based game will fit in
perfectly around the National Course. 30th in Proximity to Hole and
5th in Putts per Round highlight Na’s razor sharp short game, ideal
for Augusta’s lightening fast bent grass greens. |

2010 Form: Winner Bob Hope; 2 top 10s & 2 top 25s |

Arguably the most improved player so far in 2010 on the PGA Tour.
Reminds me so much of Nick Watney in early 2009 i.e. an accurate
bomber who ticks every attribute box required to play well around
the National course. Won his 1st PGA Tour tournament at the Bob
Hope in February, but more interesting for me was his 6th at his
first appearance at the World Golf Event at Doral, which arguably
along with the Players is the 5th major. 4 Top 25 finishes on fast
bent grass greens in 2009 also jump out of the page. |

Jason Dufner |

20/1 for a player of Dufner’s stature is attractive! It’s a fair
price when you look at his early 2010 form, but don’t let that put
you off. 18th at the World Golf Event at Doral shows there’s little
fundamentally wrong. Fact is Dufner is most comfortable away from
Florida and California and save his best performances for tough
classical tracks. 2009 highlights of 5th @ Quail Hollow, 3rd @
Canadian Open and 2nd @ TPC Boston were all on fast bent grass
greens. He also went toe to toe with Woods in the Australian
Masters in November and showed fortitude to finish 3rd. |
