September 2012 for golf fans can only mean one thing.....The Ryder Cup! It certainly doesn't feel like 2 years ago since Graeme McDowell sank that putt on the 17th green to effectively give Europe the slenderest of wins over the USA at Celtic Manor. However it is and the 2012 edition of the Ryder Cup takes place at the Medinah Country Club, just outside of Chicago - Illinois. As usual Golf Betting System is hunting for profit as we do every week on the PGA and European Tours.

There are no doubts that the European Team under the leadership of Captain Jose Maria Olazabal will face the sternest of tests to retain the Ryder Cup on US soil around the classical Medinah 7,600+ yard, Par 72 course. Many underestimated the Americans at Celtic Manor but with recent Major winners Bubba Watson (Masters), Webb Simpson (US Open), Keegan Bradley (PGA Championship 2011) and a rejuvenated Tiger Woods, the US look mighty formidable on home turf.

The Ryder Cup is the biggest event in world golf and it begins on Friday 28th September. We asked PGA Tour pundit Steve Bamford to highlight his key Ryder Cup facts that will help shape Golf Betting System's extended Ryder Cup tips in 2012 available on Tuesday 25th September. It's invaluable insight you won’t find anywhere else. Watch out Tiger loves Medinah!

The last PGA Tour tournament to be played at Medinah Country Club was the PGA Championship back in August 2006. Tiger won his second consecutive Major and 12th Major in total that week by defeating Shaun Micheel by a huge 5 stroke margin with a 270/-18 winning total, the lowest ever in PGA Championship history. Interestingly Team Europe stalwarts Luke Donald (attended Northwestern University in Chicago) and Sergio Garcia tied for 3rd position, with Steve Stricker and Ian Poulter also grabbing a Top 10 finish.

Since The Belfry in 1993 competition between the USA and Europe has been amazingly tight with the American's edging the Four Ball and Singles categories by 2 points and 3 points respectively. However take the cumulative Four Some results and you'll find that Europe dominate by over 15 points. Even more intriguingly for savvy Ryder Cup profit hunters filling your boots on Team Europe in the Saturday Foursomes historically makes substantial profit as Team USA haven't won a Saturday Foursome session since 1983 either home or away.

So targeting key American partnerships in Four Balls and the European's in Foursome action in Medinah could well generate some decent profit especially if linked to accumulators.

Load on Europe in the Foursomes

We can speculate as to the reasons why, but Europe have won 6 of the last 9 Ryder Cups because they have dominated one single format of play - the Foursomes. Remember each Ryder Cup has 8 Four Ball, 8 Foursome (alternate shots with a single ball in-play) and 12 Singles matches.

Course Top Points Scorer(s) Appearances Points Earned
Celtic Manor 2010 Ian Poulter, Luke Donald, Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker 4 Max 3
Valhalla 2008 Ian Poulter 5 Max 4
K Club 2006 Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood 5 Max 4
Oakland Hills 2004 Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood 5 Max 4.5
Belfry 2002 Colin Montgomerie 5 Max 4.5
Profit by Selecting the Top Point Scorer......they're likely to be from Team Europe

The top point scorer market is always extremely popular with punters looking to profit from the Ryder Cup week. Value can be found that's for sure with bookmakers typically paying out Top 3 Each Way. Placing yourself in the shoes of DLIII and Ollie and working through the players they will put their faith in most is important as selecting players that will feature in every match is absolutely KEY.

It's also interesting to see that a player from Team Europe has been Top Point Scorer or at the very least Joint Point Scorer since The Belfry in 2002 where Colin Montgomerie only dropped half a point in Europe's 15 1/2 vs 12 1/2 victory. Remember the diabolical conditions at Celtic Manor meant that players could only play a maximum of 4 matches in 2010 hence why 4 players topped the points scoring charts including Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker from Team USA.
