Let's be honest - 99% of the interest in golf this week will be in California, not France, however that's not to say we should ignore this event from a betting perspective...there's value to be had out there! The Saint Omer Open is unique in that it is co-sanctioned on the European Tour and the Challenge Tour - even though the purse is paltry even from a European Tour perspective, this does give the Challenge Tour players a great chance to earn some good money and pave a way onto the European Tour proper. A top 3 finish virtually assures a Challenge Tour player of their full European Tour card, whilst a winner gets an automatic European Tour exemption.
The course is short and fiddly in keeping with the last few weeks on the main Tour, however historically the most important factors have been length & GIR combined with a good putting performance on the week. In terms of the predictor I'm looking for those stats in particular, plus a smattering of course and recent form.
One final point of note - Bet 365 are currently only offering 4 places EW on this event, most others are still 5 places.
I've based my tips on the top 3 of the predictor output:
Edberg is one of the strongest players without a full European Tour card and I'm convinced he'll find a way to get back where he belongs sooner rather than later...may well be targeting this event as his chance to do exactly that. Unmistakeable on the course with his trademark headband, I'm expecting him to feature heavily throughout the coverage this week as he bids for his maiden victory on the full European Tour. The man who finished 12th at Carnoustie in 2007 is the top ranked player in terms of putting this week (4th on Tour overall) and I think he'll prove hard to beat in this company. RESULT: Tied 2nd
Haastrup achieved his best ever finish on Tour last week in Portugal to prove his top 10 in Majorca was no fluke - there's no better current form on show at present. Top 30 here last year and is one of the better putters out here - in fact his putter was the best on show last week in Portugal with a better average even than winner Thomas Bjorn. RESULT: 7th
The Argentine is having his best ever season and fits the bill from a length and GIR perspective - last week he averaged over 300 yards and hit nearly 80% of greens. Showing some progressive form with a T28 in Madrid and T21 in Portugal last week - could push on further still this week. RESULT: Tied 11th
Odds and bookmaker offers correct at 11:45BST 15.6.10 but naturally subject to fluctuation.
