The Masters ‘Marking Your Card’ Insight

• US Masters Fact 1: Take the Top 3 finishers from 2004 through 2009 at Augusta and the facts speak for themselves. 78% or 18 of 23 players were residents of the Southern United States. Split by state is Florida 12 players, Texas 3, Georgia 2, Kentucky & Tennessee 1

• US Masters Fact 2: Angel Cabrera’s Masters triumph in 2009 was truly amazing and a massive (150-1) shock! He became only the 2nd non American resident to finish in the Top 3 since 2004. The other was Olazabal in 2006. So 20/1 on Dublin based Padraig Harrington doesn’t look too tempting…or 33/1 on Rory McIlroy.

A list of negative non-US resident contenders can be seen below: Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Henrik Stenson, Angel Cabrera, Sergio Garcia, Ross Fisher, Charl Schwartzel, Adam Scott, Robert Karlsson, Andres Romero, Alvaro Quiros, Ross McGowan, MA Jimenez, Oliver Wilson, Molinari Brothers, Chris Wood, Soren Kjeldsen, Ryo Ishikawa, Soren Hansen, Anders Hansen, Simon Dyson, Shingo Katayama, Bernhard Langer, Yuta Ikeda, Jose Maria Olazabal.

• One final point - unless you are VERY sure you're getting a good price before the Wednesday of the week of the tournament, our advice is to hold fire. The Majors are highly competitive from a bookmaker perspective and come Wednesday the 7th we'd expect prices to be lengthening and EW terms improving as they have done in recent Majors. There are always loads of special offers around the Majors from a betting perspective, typically extended Each Way terms or money-back offers - check out the The Masters Specials here!

Our Facebook group contains discussions on each and every golf tournament and is turning up some outstanding results - last week for instance Keith tipped Anthony Kim for the win at 25/1 and Kenneth tipped Graham DeLaet Each Way at 300/1 - both tips obliged! • US Masters Fact 3: Tempted to get on World Number 1 Tiger Woods? His long lay-off has provided a little more value on Tiger than usual. The current 9/2 on offer look just slightly tempting after all it is Tiger…… Fact is a player going to Augusta as the World Number1 ranked player hasn’t won the tournament since 2002, when you guessed it Tiger Woods won by 3 shots from Retief Goosen.
