England vs Uruguay is the highlight of a sporting weekend which includes the Scotland vs Japan International, EFL League 1 and 2 fixtures, plus UFC Fight Night Seattle Adesanya vs Pyfer – all from Friday 27th March through to Monday 30th March 2026.
England vs Uruguay at Wembley this Friday is live on ITV1 with a 7:45pm kick-off. It’s almost a year since Thomas Tuchel became England manager, and after successfully navigating a record setting qualification campaign, the German is now putting his final touches to his 26-player squad for the summer’s festivities. These friendlies vs Uruguay and Japan (Tuesday night) see Tuchel select from a 24-player squad for Uruguay and a 35-player squad for Japan, with Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers, Anthony Gordon, Elliot Anderson, Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Dan Burn and Dean Henderson all rested for Friday night. So expect the England team on Friday night to feature Jordan Pickford, Ezri Konsa, Adam Wharton, Marcus Rashford, with either Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Dominic Solanke replacing Harry Kane up top. Uruguay successfully qualified for the summer’s tournament with coach Marcelo Bielsa including Rodrigo Bentancur, Manuel Ugarte and Darwin Nunez in his squad.
The live televised international football action continues on Saturday 28th March on BBC iPlayer with Scotland vs Japan at Hampden Park in a 5pm kick-off. Manager Steve Clarke is fine-tuning his 26-man squad to take to America this summer, and in Japan they face a team who finished top of their qualification group which featured Australia, Saudi Arabia and China. Scotland talisman midfielder Scott McTominay is likely to come off the bench after struggling recently in Italy with a back problem, but expect Aston Villa’s John McGinn to be pulling the strings in midfield alongside Billy Gilmour, with captain Andy Robertson also a starter. For Japan, Daichi Kamada (Crystal Palace), Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton) and Ao Tanaka (Leeds United) are all in the squad to play at Hampden.
From an EFL perspective, Saturday sees Harrogate Town vs Notts County live on Sky Sports Main Event with a 12:30pm kick-off. Harrogate are fighting for their EFL survival against Barrow, Newport County and Crawley Town, with 7 games of the season to go. A recent 3-0 win over Tranmere shows that Simon Waver’s side are fighting hard for survival. Notts County are in their perennial position – fighting for League 2 promotion. Positioned 2 points behind Cambridge United, just outside the automatic spots, Martin Paterson’s County side have recently tended to win or lose in equal frequency.
EFL Fixtures – Saturday 28th March:
- League 1 – Blackpool vs Burton Albion, Exeter City vs Leyton Orient, Reading vs Wigan Athletic, Stockport County vs AFC Wimbledon, Wycombe Wanderers vs Port Vale.
- League 2 – Harrogate Town vs Notts County, Barnet vs Cambridge United, Barrow vs Bromley, Bristol Rovers vs Accrington Stanley , Colchester United vs Walsall, Crawley Town vs Gillingham, Crewe Alexandra vs Oldham Athletic, Newport County vs Shrewsbury Town, Salford City vs MK Dons, Swindon Town vs Fleetwood Town.
UFC Fight Night Seattle from the Climate Pledge Arena this Sunday morning sees full coverage on TNT Sports. This Fight Night sees a huge fight for former Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya (24-5) who fights Joe Pyfer (15-3) in what could be an historic contest. Adesanya was the dominant champion, who was pound-for-pound Number 1 for a protracted period of time. Since then the New Zealander has lost to Alex Pereira, Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis, but his nadir loss was his last fight to Nassourdine Imavov, where he was knocked out in Riyadh in early 2025. Many have written-off “The Last Stylebender” making this fight in Seattle, which is potentially his last. In Joe Pyfer he faces the Middleweight division #14 – so an Adesanya loss could signal retirement. Co-main sees a high-grade Women’s Flyweight contest between Alexa Grasso (16-5-1) and Maycee Barber (15-2). Grasso defeated Valentina Shevchenko in 2023 for the title, drew against Shevchenko, and then lost the title to the Russian legend in 2024, before losing to Natalia Silva last year. You feel this is very much a crossroads fight for the 32 year-old Mexican. Grasso beat her Seattle opponent Barber at UFC 258 in 2021, but since then Barber has rebuilt and is unbeaten in 7 contests. The Seattle card also sees Michael Chiesa, Julian Erosa, Chase Hooper and Marcin Tybura.
