The remaining players on my shortlist who didn't quite make the final 3 were: Tom Watson (5/1 - after last year's effort at Turnberry, who knows?!); Simon Dyson (5/1 reigning champion of the Alfred Dunhill Links and KLM Open, plus also won the KLM in 2006. Needs the Ryder Cup points too); Robert Rock (7/1 - excellent recent form, T20 at Hoylake); and Simon Khan (Wentworth winner has finished T20 3 times in last 5 years at Alfred Dunhill)

Trevor Immelman 5/1. We start our 3 selections with Major champion Immelman who is outstanding value at 5/1 for a top 20. The South African proved his class in Augusta back in 2008 by holding off Tiger Woods by 3 shots and, although actually winning The Open isn't overly likely in my opinion, securing a good finish is certainly on the cards this week. Since recovering from tendonitis of his wrist, Immelman has been slowly regaining form and 14th at this year's Masters was a hugely positive performance; 11th last week in Loch Lomond also bodes well. Immelman also boasts a positive record at The Open - no missed cuts from 5 attempts and 2 top 20 finishes, including a T15 here at St Andrews back in 2005. RESULT: T23

Shane Lowry 13/2. The 23 year old exploded onto our radar with victory as an amateur at last year's Irish Open in poor weather conditions - in fact if there's anyone out there who will relish a bit of cold, wet and windy coastal weather it's the man from Ireland. Following his win, his next best finish in his first season was - surprise, surprise - a top 15 finish at the KLM Open, one of the few links courses used on the normal European Tour season. Lowry qualified by shooting an incredible 62 at Sunningdale - equalling Nick Faldo's course record - and will come into this event full of confidence after an excellent 7th place finish at Loch Lomond. RESULT: T37

Thomas Aiken 15/2. Another South African completes our trio this week. Aiken caught the eye last year at Turnberry with an excellent top 10 finish proving that he can compete at the higher echelons of the game, plus proved he can play St Andrews with a final round 67 at the Old Course propelling him to 13th place at the 2008 Alfred Dunhill Links. Aiken is a quality player who is yet to make the breakthrough and win his first event on Tour - good news is we're not expecting a win here, but a top 20 finish is certainly achievable. His recent form is solid enough with 6 consecutive cuts made and 4 top 25 finishes in that time, including a T19 last week at Loch Lomond. RESULT: T74

The game here is to pick 3 players in the Extrabet top 20 market at odds of 5/1 or greater - if any one of the 3 does indeed finish in the top 20 (including ties for the 20th position) then you're guaranteed to at least double your overall stake for the 3 bets you place. Easy!

If you're new to the game, here's the drill:

Step 1, have an Extrabet account ready to use - this is important for these bets. Step 2, pick 3 players in the Extrabet top-20 market with odds of 5/1 or longer. The reason that you place these with Extrabet is that there's no reduction for ties in their rules - so if your player ties with any other players for 20th spot then you still get full returns at the quoted price. This happens more regularly than you might expect! Place a level stake on each, ie £10, or whatever suits you.

Step 3, use the predictor or knowledge (or follow our tips!) to work out those players who are most likely to finish well at a long price. Typically you need to be looking at outright odds of 150/1 or longer to get a 5/1 top-20 price although there's no hard and fast rule here, you'll need to check the price with Extrabet via this link.

Step 4, if any one of your 3 players finishes in the top 20 or a tie for 20th then you'll at least double your money!
