Steve Bamford's US Open Double Your Money Special
Another week, another result in this format last week with Bob Estes obliging at 11/2 and giving us a 116% profit on the week on the PGA Tour and making it 3 successful weeks on the trot. Let's take that to Pebble Beach!!
Now, if you're new to this column - or simply want to see how we've been faring over the last few weeks that we've been running this idea - then click here for full details: double your money
Here's the drill:
Step 1, have an Extrabet account ready to use - this is important for these bets. If you haven't got an Extrabet account then you can open a new one here: going via this link will qualify you for a £100 basket of free fixed-odds bets and £100 casino bonus.
Step 2, pick 3 players in the Extrabet top-20 market with odds of 5/1 or longer. The reason that you place these with Extrabet is that there's no reduction for ties in their rules - so if your player ties with any other players for 20th spot then you still get full returns at the quoted price. This happens more regularly than you might expect! Place a level stake on each, ie £10, or whatever suits you.
Step 3, use the predictor to work out those players who are most likely to finish well at a long price. Typically you need to be looking at outright odds of 150/1 or longer to get a 5/1 top-20 price although there's no hard and fast rule here, you'll need to check the price with Extrabet via this link.
Step 4, if any one of your 3 players finishes in the top 20 or a tie for 20th then you'll at least double your money!
On that basis, here's my 3 picks. If you have a different 3 why not share them with us on Twitter or Facebook via the links at the top of this page?
Simon Dyson 6/1. Picking players who are comfortable in their surroundings, but who are motivated is key to success with Top 20 Double Your Money betting. Englishman Dyson fulfils both categories this week. This is Dyson’s 3rd US Open and he’s missed the cut both in 05 & 08. It’s true that his US experience is limited but even so it’s encouraging with a 6th at the PGA Championship in Southern Hills in 2007 highlighting Dyson’s potential. Dyson though is truly a links golf specialist. Winner of the KLM Open played on the Dutch coast in both 06 and 09 is highly impressive. The fact that he won last year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and also finished 8th there in 2006, simply adds fuel to the fire…and don’t worry about motivation. That comes from the fact that he currently has an automatic spot for the Ryder Cup team and is desperate to remain there as he’s less likely than some notable others to get one of Monty’s Captain’s Picks. RESULT: Missed Cut
Bob Estes 6/1. We scored success with Bob last week in Memphis and we’re sticking with the Texan for a second week. Has started the season slowly but his season started to gain momentum with a 24th at The Players Championship, then 8th last week at the St Jude Classic. Estes has played the AT&T Pebble Pro-Am over the past 2 seasons and finished 4th in 2009 and 16th this year. In fact Bob is -7 for his last 3 rounds of the troublesome links course. Now we know the course will be a tougher test this week, but Estes has confidence at Monterey. 10 Top 20 finishes in Majors, the last being the US Open in 2005 also adds ‘major’ appeal. RESULT: Missed cut
David Duval 10/1. Golf’s true enigma! I won’t bore with you with the details, safe to say that Duval won the Open Championship in 2001 has 11 Major Championship Top 10s and was World Number 1 for a period. Those days have gone and, let's be honest, aren't likely to be recreated, BUT Colorado’s favourite golfing son is still a links golf course specialist. Sadly the PGA Tour seems not to motivate the demonstrative Duval, but his 3rd at Bethpage Black last year completely out of the blue shows that Duval is still a classy golfer. However that alone wouldn’t get us to tip him for Double Your Money success this week at a whopping 10/1. He is very much a Pebble specialist with 3 2nd places on his resume, the last of which was this February and yielded 2 rounds of -7 around the famous links course. RESULT: T70
Odds and offers correct 08:30BST 17.6.10 but naturally subject to fluctuation, particularly once everyone starts placing their bets on these players so be quick!!
