The FA Cup 3rd Round is the highlight of a sporting weekend which includes EFL League 1 and League 2 matches plus the start of The Masters snooker, with action from Friday 9th January through to Monday 12th January 2026.
FA Cup 3rd Round weekend is always a highlight of any football supporters’ season and 2026 sees the usual mix of Premier League heavyweights mingling in the draw with lower-league minnows. All in all there will be 32 ties from Friday 9th January through to Monday 12th January, with the 4th Round draw taking place on Sunday. There will also be a massive 22 games available on TV, either on the BBC, discovery+, or TNT Sports.
Friday 9th January sees the TNT Sports TV cameras at the Racecourse Ground for an intriguing Championship vs Premier League tie. Newly promoted Wrexham have acclimatised well to life in the second tier and will fancy their chances of beating Nottingham Forest at home, having won all four of their games over the Christmas and New Year period. Forest on the other hand have lost four of their last five games, finally eventually edging past fellow strugglers West Ham on Tuesday night with a last-minute Morgan Gibbs-White penalty. With just 14 places separating the two teams in the football pyramid, this has all the hallmarks of a classic cup tie.
The BBC have retained rights to some live matches this season and their Saturday lunchtime offering is Macclesfield vs Crystal Palace, kick-off 12.15pm. That’s followed by Spurs vs Aston Villa at 5.45pm in one of the few all-Premier League matches that the 3rd round draw produced this year.
TNT Sports pick up the reins from Sunday onwards with a further four matches available on their channels. Derby vs Leeds (12pm kick-off), Portsmouth vs Arsenal (2pm) and Manchester United vs Brighton (4.30pm) are the Sunday offerings, with Liverpool vs Barnsley completing the fixtures on Monday evening at 8pm.
In a new strategy for this season, discovery+ will also be featuring a whole host of 3rd round matches live on their channels as follows:
Friday 9th January:
- Milton Keynes Dons vs Oxford Utd; Port Vale vs Fleetwood Town; Preston vs Wigan; Wrexham vs Nottingham Forest.
Saturday 10th January:
- Cheltenham vs Leicester; Everton vs Sunderland; Macclesfield vs Crystal Palace; Wolves vs Shrewsbury; Cambridge vs Birmingham; Tottenham vs Aston Villa; Grimsby Town vs Weston Super Mare; Charlton Athletic vs Chelsea.
