The one bookmaker that sets themselves apart from the others though is bet365, who are offering their ‘Each Way Extra’ promotion on the Grand National which allows you to choose a massive 8 or even 10 places each way at 1/5 odds!

  • Each Way Extra gives you the option to increase or decrease the number of places in a race when you are betting Each Way on selected Horse Races at bet365.
  • When you use Each Way Extra you can add places to your Each Way Horse Racing bets and take a reduced price or remove places and increase the odds on your selection.
  • The number of Each Way Extra places offered on a race can be viewed on the Each Way Extra coupon or on the bet slip.”
Each Way Extra bets will not be eligible for bet365 Price Promise, Best Odds Guaranteed, ITV Racing 4/1 Offer or Feature Race 4/1 Offer, except where a new or eligible customer selects place terms that match the standard Win and Each Way market for that race. Where Enhanced Place Terms are offered on a race and selected by a new or eligible customer, ITV Racing 4/1 Offer and Feature Race 4/1 Offer will apply.
  • T&Cs apply. Registration required. For full details of how Each Way Extra works click here.

The Grand National is the biggest horse race in the world with millions of us every year placing an each way wager.

But not all each way bets on the Grand National are the same. Some online bookmakers offer up extended each way place terms, whereby they pay out a higher number of the placed finishers.

PLEASE NOTE: As the Grand National approaches, most bookmakers reduce or in some cases completely remove their new customer sign-up offer. If you’re reading this well in advance of the race then it will likely benefit you to register your account beforehand, visit the bookmakers listed above for latest offers using the links provided.

Why 8 Places Each Way at the Grand National?

The Grand National has 40 runners each year and the most popular form of betting is an each way bet, but why would 8 place terms be so beneficial?

With an each way bet, what you’re actually doing is placing 2 bets: one that’s win only, and another that is for the horse to finish in the paying places, so your total stake is doubled. For instance, a £10 each way bet would cost you £20 in total. The number of paying places is important for the Grand National as the industry standard is just 4 places.

Now 7 places each way is usually offered by a select bookmaker each year. 2019 saw Unibet offer 7 places each way for the first time ever, and 2021 saw only Boylesports offer 7 places each way at 1/5 odds terms. So if any leading bookmaker offers 8 places each way at the 2022 Grand National it will be a first in bookmaking history. Secondly horses finishing 2nd to 8th will all receive a place payout, over and above the winner.

With some bookmakers being as short as 5 places each way at 1/5 odds the place in 2022, you can see why backing any selection with at 8 places each way, if available in 2023, would be some beneficial.
