After a slow start to 2020 with a blank at the SA Open, Sergio Garcia provided the first return of the year with a slice of the each-way action with an 8th place finish in Abu Dhabi.
The rest of the Middle East swing was a washout with nothing back in Dubai or Saudi, and the Vic Open was equally disappointing despite good chances from longshots Nick Flanagan and Zach Murray heading into the final day. Both sadly missed out on the each-way action, however Paul’s European Tour season took a sharp upward shift at the WGC Mexico Championship when Patrick Reed obliged at 50/1 to put his P&L into profit overall for the year.
It was almost 2 out of 2 when 80/1 shot Brandon Stone lost out in a play-off the following week in Oman before the European Tour season took a premature halt following a blank at the Qatar Masters due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The restart to European Tour action saw Paul treading water with a series of each-way places meaning that his P&L didn’t deviate much at all, the highlight of which was a full place payout on Craig Howie at a massive 250/1 at the UK Championship at The Belfry.
